Do's and Don'ts - Résumé Tips

Marketing you

In order for us to represent you properly, there are some things that you can do to assist us in the "marketing" of your background and expertise:

    1) Résumé - Your name, address and phone number should be centered at the top. Remove the "objective". This limits you for other possible positions. A "profile" at the top of the résumé is acceptable, but not necessary. "Bullet'' your Key Strengths. One or two words in two columns. "Bullet" your Key Accomplishments. Two or three lines per accomplishment. List your Experience starting with the last employer. Show years of employment (no months), name of the company in which you were employed, your title, and, a short description of your responsibilities. The last category shows your Education and special training. If you are Bilingual, state the language(s).

    2) If you have any annual reviews, please include them.

    3) If you have letters from clients or customers that can be useful, please forward them.

    4) If you have congratulatory letters from upper management, include those.

    5) Include at least four references that you know will speak well of you. They will not be contacted until the proper time, and, only with your permission.

    6) On a separate piece of paper, please indicate your salary history, what you would like as a base salary in a new position, and, the least you would accept.

Additionally, a cover letter, addressed to your recruiter, that tells him/her how good you are. Do NOT be humble! Tell your recruiter about your key strengths, key accomplishments, and areas of expertise, credits that you have worked with and what size, marketing abilities, entrepreneurial skills, management skills and interpersonal skills that you possess. We use the cover letter as a "marketing tool" to be forwarded to a prospective employer with your other information.

Please email, fax, or mail the above to your recruiter's attention. The preferred method of receipt is email to: wayne@nbfsearch.com.

We strongly suggest that you do not attempt to market yourself or to use more than two or three recruiters. "Duplication of efforts" will cause recruiters to discontinue their marketing of you. We also recommend that if you know of a position for which you may be suited, that you call us instead of trying to go it on your own. WE WILL MARKET YOUR TALENTS ON YOUR BEHALF. In the event that a company does not pay a fee to recruiters, we will let you know that they may have an interest in you, and suggest that you follow-up on your own. We will NEVER stand in the way of a career opportunity for any of our candidates!

Best Wishes,

Wayne Wedderien CEO
